At Kivu Ethnobotanical Garden Foundation (JEBK),
we focus on
Selection, Identification and collection of seeds of Threatened Trees for ex situ domestication at JEBK DRC
Based on some rare domesticated plants of the foundation, JEBK DRC is active in the promotion, enhancement and conservation of the Traditional Cuisines of the different ethnic groups, especially those in the process of disappearing. In addition, the food crops of the Indigenous Peoples recently expelled from KBNP are conserved through various plant-related cultural activities within the Garden. The valorization of the traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples finds its basis and space at JEBK DRC.
As the future generation, School youth, boys and girls with the flag of the Jardin Ethnobotanique du Kivu, They are from various ethnic groups ,from all stretches and schools, they often meet up at JEBK for education on plant conservation.
Technical and Scientific Cooperation with local universities and other local teaching institutions within the framework of training and research in Ethnobiology, Taxonomy of Flora, Environmental Information and Education, Research in Conservation and Biodiversity including Ethnobotany
Wild food plants are domesticated and preserved as an edible forest to bring women closer to wild foods
JEBK DRC is a space for the promotion of rich local foods and traditional cuisine as the basis for food security in rural areas in fragile areas.
Idle women and young people from rural and urban areas follow training in techniques on sustainable agriculture, horticulture, silviculture combines with notions on Entrepreneurship… etc and acquire the skills and competencies they need to create small green businesses based on the sustainable exploitation of plant resources in their environment while contributing to sustainable development and the improvement of their socio-economic situation.
Public Place and JEBK, via media and cooperation with local and international organizations, the JEBK DRC raises awareness among local opinion on the importance of trees for ecological restoration and reforestation in the tempon area between the PNKB and the surrounding villages. In addition, some knowledge and knowledge about wild edible plants will be popularized and made available to the public.
For the purpose of the Conservation of rare endemic plants, the results of our actions, research are popularized by and for young people and the general public by means of art as an instrument through drawing, poem, theater, music around themes such as « Trees » and « Plants », Menaceous plants, Useful plants, Endemic plants, Plants Food, Medicinal Plants, Plants for Life, Plants for a Healthy Environment, Plants and Sustainable Health, Plants and Peace Communities, Plants and Gender, Plants and Youth, Plants and Peace, ….
